On January 19, it was reported that the Enigma, the world’s largest cut diamond, will be auctioned online by Sotheby’s on February 3, with an estimated price of at least £5 million. The black diamond, named “The Enigma”, has 55 facets and weighs 555.55 carats. It was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest cut diamond in 2006.
In addition to traditional currencies, Sotheby’s will accept payments in bitcoin, ethereum and the stablecoin USDC in this auction.
This is the second time Sotheby’s has accepted cryptocurrency payments at a diamond auction. Last July, the auction house sold a diamond for $12.3 million to a mystery buyer who bought the 101.38-carat diamond with cryptocurrency.
