On October 4, the open source 5G company FreedomFi announced that its 5G gateway that can be used for mining the Helium token HNT, a decentralized wireless communication network, has begun shipping. FreedomFi said that a gateway compatible with 5GHelium is priced at US$1,000, and the total cost of the equipment is at least US$1500, including small CBRS base stations with operating prices ranging from US$500 to US$5,000.
In addition, the communications technology company GigSky announced in September that it would cooperate with FreedomFi and Helium to launch an eSIM-based cellular data plan. GigSky uses eSIM technology to provide travelers with roaming services. It hopes to eventually use the CBRS deployed by users who want to mine HNT tokens. Small base stations provide cellular data.
