Three models of Bitmain mining machines account for 76 percent of the Bitcoin network’s computing power, according to new research from Coinmetrics released Tuesday.
Coinmetrics found that the Antminer S19j Pro accounted for 34.3% of the network hashrate and the S19 accounted for 28.1%, making them the most used machines on the network since March 2021.
The Antminer S19 XP accounted for another 13.7% of the network’s hashrate, the report said. Meanwhile, the researchers say MicroBT’s M50 is below the detectability threshold.
The report also found that the Bitcoin network consumes 13.4 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, 13 percent lower than a commonly used index published by Cambridge University’s Center for Alternative Finance.
