The nonprofit Tor has raised nearly $1 million in 2021, with 58 percent of donations coming from cryptocurrencies, an 841 percent increase from the previous year, the nonprofit Tor said in a blog post on Monday. Of all cryptocurrency donations, 68% ($371,000) were in Bitcoin, 28% ($154,000) in Ethereum, 2% ($9,000) in DAI, and 1% ($7l) in Monero.
The Tor Project is a non-profit organization that guides the development of the privacy web and web browser Tor. According to Bitnodes, a bitcoin network tracking site, more than 51 percent of nodes run through the Tor network.
The Tor Project first started accepting bitcoin donations in 2013, before expanding to accept nine other cryptocurrencies in 2019.
