Global venture capital funds have invested about 30 billion U.S. dollars in cryptocurrencies this year, more than the sum of previous years.
According to transaction data compiled by PitchBook Data Inc, this is almost four times the previous record of approximately $8 billion in 2018.
This $30 billion includes financing obtained by large companies such as Robinhood Markets and Revolut. According to data from PitchBook, this year’s large-scale financing transactions of more than $1 billion in the cryptocurrency field also set a new record. The total amount reached approximately 7.2 billion U.S. dollars, four times the record before 2018.
For example, the crypto derivatives exchange FTX completed a $1 billion Series B financing in July, pushing its valuation to $18 billion.
The New York Digital Investment Group raised $1 billion in mid-December, bringing its valuation to more than $7 billion.
Forte, a company that provides blockchain integration tools for game publishers, completed a $725 million financing in November.
In March of this year, Dapper Labs, the NFT platform behind CryptoKitties, raised $350 million from investors including basketball superstar Michael Jordan. Push its valuation to 2.5 billion US dollars. MoonPay, an encrypted payment infrastructure provider, completed a $555 million financing at the end of November, raising its valuation to $3.4 billion.
In October, the developer of Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis, raised more than $150 million in funding for this cryptocurrency-based online game, bringing its valuation to $3 billion.
