According to the Celo Governance Forum, the Celo development organization cLabs proposed to transform Celo from an independent EVM-compatible L1 blockchain to an OP Stack-based Ethereum L2.
The proposal was the result of months of research by the cLabs team and initial discussions with Celo and Ethereum core community members.
Post-transition, the decentralized sequencer will be powered by Celo’s existing set of validator nodes running Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus.
The off-chain data availability layer is powered by EigenLayer and EigenDA, operated by Ethereum node operators and secured by restaked ETH.
The community will hold a governance call and will initiate a temperature check governance proposal following that meeting.
