Cathie Wood, founder and CEO of Ark Investments, said in an interview with CNBC recently that Metaverse will be a “trillion-dollar opportunity.”
She believes, “Metacosm is a great idea, which may penetrate into every industry in ways we can’t imagine now, just like technology.”
“We can say that Metaverse is at the forefront of the evolution of Web3.0, so much so that Facebook renamed itself Meta. And Grayscale claims that by 2022, Metaverse may develop into a trillion-dollar industry.”
Wood affirmed that Metaverse will affect all economic activities. At the same time, she believes that the applications of Metaverse will surpass games and consumer products in the future.
“We will have our digital twin, which will bring a lot of fun and efficiency.”
According to a report from DappRadar, Metaverse’s land sales exceeded US$100 million last week.
In addition, The Sandbox, Decentraland, CryptoVoxels and Somnium Space also generated 6,000 transactions. Among them, The Sandbox’s land sales exceeded $86 million, which is the most attractive one.
The report also stated that these virtual lands even surpassed major NFT projects. It shows, “There is no doubt that Metaverse is the next big hit in the NFT field.”
More giants join Metaverse
In the sports industry, Metaverse is also a hot topic. Recently, the English Manchester City Football Club announced a collaboration with Sony to create a virtual world.
In their joint statement, Sony and Manchester City Football Club stated that “Sony will cooperate with Manchester City to develop new forms of digital content and services that integrate the physical and virtual world.”
After Nike announced its metaverse plan, Adidas also entered the virtual space.
Despite so many activities in this field, Elon Musk does not seem to be involved in this revolution. While several Chinese companies are seizing the opportunity to register the Yuan universe trademark, Baidu and NetEase are both front-runners in this field.
NetEase founder and CEO Ding Lei said recently, “When the metaverse era finally comes, we may be the fastest.”
